Morning Prayer

(A blackbird sings at dawn, calling you to the Otherworld)

A light shines in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it

(Light a candle)

By the power of Star and Stone
By the light of Sun and Moon
By the power of Land and Sea
By the Spirits fair and free
Hail to this new day!
Earth*, Sea*, Sky*, Spirit*
Minister to me*

(Pause)

Realm of ice and snow, of dim-seeing mists,
of bear and reindeer, of ice-sparkling stars;
I call upon the powers of the Northern Earth.

Realm of the summer sun,
warm with the gentle buzz of insects
on chalk downlands, green and purest white;
I call upon the powers of the Southern Fire.

Realm of the re-creating dawn,
blue-pink through the tracery of branches,
hope and newness bringer;
I call upon the powers of the Eastern Air.

Realm of enchanted pools and waterfalls,
of blue-green waves beating upon the sacred rocks;
I call upon the powers of the Western Waters.

Elemental spirits of North, South, East and West,
foundations of life and servants of the divine,
grace me with your presence and powers.

(Meditation for the day: follow the links on the left)

From beneath me arises the energy of the Earth,
my home and my foundation.

From above me pours down the light of the Sun,
and the enchanting light of the Moon.

To my right hand flows the strength to control
and direct, the power of Magic.

To my left hand lies the skill to divine and to heal,
the source of blessing.

Before me arisies the perfected one I strive to
become, my magical true self

Behind me falls the one I was,
and with it all my discarded failures.

Around me circle the eternal Stars,
lamps of wisdom in the deeps of space

Within me shines the flame of Life,
the light of experience and understanding.

(Pause)

Goddess of the Flame and Well
God of the Wind and Sea
Star and Stone, God and Goddess.

Today I shall use the knowledge I gain,
the magic I learn,
To help and to heal,
to grow and to change,
To nurture the child,
to tend all life,
To foster strength and courage in the hearts of all.

Nine waves of blessing be upon me,
Waves* of the givers* of health*, joy* and life*.
May I find joy in my work;
May generosity flow from my heart and my hands;
May my life bring joy and blessing to others.
So may it be.

(Listen to the blackbird.)
